Senior Engineer/Systems Engineer (Combat Systems/Communications)

Basic Engineering Concepts & Technologies, Inc. (BecTech) is a Woman-Owned Small Business program management and engineering services provider to the Department of Defense (DoD) Agencies. Our international team supporting the Australian Future Submarine Program is seeking a Senior Engineer or Systems Engineer with expertise in combat systems design and integration, particularly with experience integrating communications elements. The qualified applicant will support the Commonwealth of Australia’s Future Submarine Program in Adelaide, South Australia. Candidates will work as part of the Combat Systems engineering team in the development, design and integration of the communications capability within the broader combat system. This position requires living and working in Australia for two years. In addition to salary, benefits include some relocation and subsistence allowances.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Plan, organize, integrate and deliver complex systems engineering services and products;
Undertake complex activities and tasks relating to requirements development, system definition, design and development, integration, verification and validation and testing to achieve agreed priorities and outcomes;
Apply technical and professional knowledge and experience to systems engineering processes across the system engineering lifecycle;
Work closely with the Combat System Integrator, International Partner, existing Collins Class In-Service Support Contractors and any other Department of Defence stakeholders;
Build and sustain relationships with key stakeholders at the strategic and operational level; and
As a member of the Combat System team:
(i) evaluate technical deliverables to ensure alignment with project objectives;
(ii) review, analyze and report upon submarine design performance, safety, operational effectiveness and environmental issues;
(iii) contribute to development and management of the combat system reference architecture and direction of solution architectures;
(iv) support the development of system and subsystem functional specifications;
(v) develop EW and Communications system performance characteristics;
(vi) develop and manage system Size, Weight, Power and Cooling estimates;
(vii) contribute to the analysis of Combat System designs, system selections and general arrangement layouts with consideration of Whole of Boat aspects;
(viii) undertake combat system cost capability trade studies;
(ix) support the development of the Seaworthiness Case at the system design levels;
(x) support the development of the assurance and acceptance program;
(xi) support the management and planning of combat system related Science and Technology activities; and
(xii) be responsible for one or more complex subsystems such as acoustic and nonacoustic sensors, communications, electronic warfare, weapons, tactical or navigation, or cross-functional areas such as systems engineering, platform integration or test and evaluation.
Show initiative and be able to work with minimum supervision but not in isolation from the rest of the team.

Senior Systems Engineer

The contractor shall support the Technical Representative Office (TechRep), located in Tucson, Arizona. The selected individual will provide technical representative services to the government at contractor facilities in support of the Standard Missile Program. This position requires frequent communication and collaboration with other government and industry partners. The candidate will be responsible for mitigating daily challenges while working with functional leadership, program leadership, and internal/external customers. The candidate will participate in determining objectives of assignments, plans, schedules and will arrange their own activities in accomplishing objectives. As part of this activity, the candidate will perform Systems and Electrical Engineering duties and utilize systems thinking approach in developing solutions to a variety of problems.

This position requires frequent communication and collaboration with other government and industry partners. The candidate will be responsible for mitigating daily challenges in the software development environment while working with functional leadership, program leadership, and internal/external customers. The candidate will participate in determining objectives of assignments, plans, schedules and will arrange their own activities in accomplishing objectives. As part of this activity, the candidate will perform Software Engineering duties in providing oversight and insight to the contractor's software development processes. They will utilize a systems thinking approach in supporting the development of solutions to a variety of software problems through the application of their software engineering experience.
