On 9 January 2017, Mr. Bob Wilson was awarded the highly prestigious AEGIS BMD Pathfinder Award by RDML Johnny Wolf, Program Executive, AEGIS Ballistic Missile Defense (ABMD), in a ceremony held at Lockheed Martin in Crystal City. His citation, reads in part:
“Mr. Bob Wilson is the epitome of a Pathfinder, who has made a substantially valuable and enduring impact to the Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense Program. Over the last 20 years, he supported the Missile Defense Agency and the evolution of the Aegis BMD Program by serving as the Standard Missile-3 Technical Director and Advisor for the Aegis BMD Guided Missile Program Office. While serving on active duty in the U.S. Navy between 1969 and 1997, he made invaluable contributions serving as Test and Evaluation Officer, Systems Engineer, Technical Director, and Program Manager on critical Navy programs, which laid the foundation for Aegis BMD. He became a preeminent expert in the field of Standard Missiles. Throughout Mr. Wilson’s impressive military and industry career, he supported the Aegis BMD vision from Terrier Leap through the current SM-3 and SM-6 development efforts; …”For over 20 years, Mr. Wilson worked in direct support of the MDA, Aegis BMD, and the Standard Missile Programs. He played an exceptional role in creating and significantly enhancing the Standard Missile capability and reputation of Aegis BMD as a central element of the overarching Ballistic Missile Defense System. It is for his incomparable work as a military and industry leader with Aegis BMD missile design, development, and testing that we honor him today with the 2017 Aegis BMD Pathfinder Award.”
